The role:

This is a highly challenging role within Commercial Banking Risk, placing the job holder at the leading edge of the management of the Commercial Banks Portfolio.

The jobholder will work as part of a dynamic team that have responsibility for determining the overall shape of the asset portfolio, ensuring that the chosen strategies optimise the balance of risk and reward and maximize shareholder value.

The proactive and innovative risk portfolio management approach adopted informs and drives key business decisions, creating value across the different parts of Commercial Banking.

Increasingly, the Global Retail and Commercial Bank (GRCB) are seeking to actively manage the portfolio and increase the distribution of risk to market investors. This strategy meets a range of business objectives, increasing returns on capital and capital creation, minimising loss volatility and supporting P&L growth.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the different areas in implementing their approach to Basel 2 and ensuring the bank is satisfied with the outputs from these areas.

More specifically the jobholder will:

• Advise on implementing the Basel 2 approach • Ensure a consistent approach of RWA calculation across GRCB • Assist in dealing with local regulator, by providing content support to SBUs and explaining the banks approach to Basel 2 • Challenge the RWA outputs from SBUs • Provide Basel 2 compliance training to SBUs’ management • Work closely with the Basel 2 implementation programme to ensure that any compliance gaps are addressed and closed and that business benefits are created from planned improvements • Ensure continued compliance with the Basel 2 regulations, liaising with the commercial, product, risk and back office teams to ensure that changes in business strategy and/or the product offering and portfolio do not jeopardise Basel compliance • Work pro-actively with SBUs to shape and define future strategy • Ensure effective communication and team working

Also, the jobholder will assist the Head Regulatory Capital Management in the performance of the following duties:

• Identify possibilities to streamline the RWA calculation process • Understand and explain the alignment or otherwise of Economic to Regulatory Capital, working closely with Business Banking Finance and Risk • Measure the benefits provided by securitisation and credit risk mitigation proposals • Work with the Quantitative Analytics team to ensure that Regulatory Capital is considered when strategies to optimise returns on Economic Capital are developed
